Hi, I’m Dr. Davinna Ligons, PhD
I care deeply about helping people better understand their bodies, their health, and the everyday factors that shape well-being over time.
I am a scientist, educator, health advocate, and creator. My work has taken different forms, but it is connected by a common thread: curiosity about how things work, a desire to make complex information more understandable, and a commitment to helping people live with greater awareness and intention.
Within health, I have chosen to focus much of my work on lifestyle and metabolic health, prevention, and health literacy. I approach these areas through systems thinking—looking at how diet, sleep, movement, stress, environment, and other daily influences interact with physiology over time.
Healing Made Whole is where these parts of my work come together: science and education, prevention and advocacy, creativity, and thoughtfully made products for everyday living.
My Journey
My personal health journey began in 2013, after a significant health event caused me to look more closely at my own health and at the relationship between lifestyle, physiology, and the signals our bodies give us.
That experience changed the way I thought about health. It made me more curious about what happens before illness becomes obvious, how everyday patterns influence health over time, and how much we are actually taught about our own bodies.
It also reinforced something I continue to believe today: we are better equipped to care for ourselves when we understand what is happening in our bodies and why.
Healing Made Whole grew from that conviction.
I wanted to create a space where science could be translated into practical understanding, where we could become more informed and engaged in our health, and where everyday choices could be approached with greater awareness and intention.
Over time, that vision expanded beyond education alone. I began thinking more deeply about the things we bring into our daily lives—the foods we eat, the materials we use, the products we put on our bodies, the environments we create in our homes, and the small rituals that help us care for ourselves and reconnect with what matters.
That, too, is part of Healing Made Whole.
My Approach
I believe health is shaped over time.
What we eat, how we sleep, how often we move, the stress we carry, the environments we live in, and the patterns we repeat can all influence physiological function across the lifespan.
Rather than viewing these factors in isolation, I look at how they interact.
That is why my work emphasizes upstream thinking: understanding patterns, recognizing relationships, asking better questions, and making informed decisions before health is viewed only through the lens of symptoms or disease.
This is not about pursuing perfection. It is about developing awareness, understanding cause and effect, and making thoughtful choices with the information and resources available to us.
That philosophy also influences the products I create.
I am drawn to simple formulations, natural materials, thoughtful sourcing, and products that serve a real purpose in everyday life. I believe there is value in understanding not only what we consume, but also what we use, how it is made, and why it is there.
For me, health and everyday living are not separate subjects. They are deeply connected.
My Training
I completed my doctoral training in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, with a scientific background in immunology, and later completed postdoctoral research at the National Cancer Institute.
My scientific training taught me how to investigate complex biological systems, evaluate evidence critically, ask precise questions, and recognize both what the available information tells us and where uncertainty remains.
To further support my work in lifestyle education, I also completed professional certifications in Functional Nutrition Counseling (CFNC) and as a Functional Nutrition Lifestyle Practitioner (FNLP).
These experiences continue to shape the way I approach health education, prevention, product development, and the broader work of Healing Made Whole.
I continue to learn, ask questions, and deepen my understanding because health is complex—and good education should reflect that complexity without making it inaccessible.
My Commitment
Healing Made Whole is grounded in a simple belief: understanding creates agency.
When we better understand our bodies, our environments, and the factors that influence health, we are better positioned to ask questions, recognize patterns, make informed choices, and participate more actively in our own well-being.
That understanding should not be available only to those of us who happen to know what questions to ask, have access to specialized information, or move within circles where that knowledge is readily shared.
My commitment through Healing Made Whole is to bring these ideas together through education, community engagement, thoughtful products, and a way of living that values prevention, intentionality, and stewardship.
The goal is not to control every variable or eliminate every risk.
It is to understand more, live more intentionally, and make thoughtful choices wherever we can.
Healing Made Whole provides education and supportive resources and does not provide medical diagnosis or treatment. Educational content and services are intended to complement, not replace, care from qualified healthcare professionals.
